Gingerbread Man redux

This is a short follow-up to my post on 50 Shades of Gender.

The Gingerbread Man is a staple of childhood stories. Recently, a public school in California has found a new way to employ this image in the process of “sex ed.” They instigate the stories of “Genderbread Man”! I’ll let you imagine its various renderings.

Again, do not doubt that “scripting” is a powerful tool used to change and transform our beliefs and culture.

  1. Thank you for this clear rendering. Now the poor guy is being used for something else and won’t be the same. If ever a kid sees the gingerbread man after this incarnation as “genderbread man”, he’ll say to himself, “Oh look, there’s the so-and so who loves so-and-so who was once a this-or-that.” He’s not the only one. Now, nor will I. At least I remember his former identity. However, it’s sobering that even the gingerbread man is not spared the tide of “scripts”.

  2. Hmm, I’m going to have to think twice when the Holidays role around this year! Maybe I’ll opt for the dreaded Fruit Cake instead. Poor Gingerbread Man!
